Treatment Modalities for OCD include:
EXPOSURE AND RESPONSE PREVENTION THERAPY (ERP)
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is considered the gold-standard treatment for OCD, with research showing it is effective for about 70% of people who struggle with the disorder. ERP works by gradually reducing the distress caused by intrusive thoughts through carefully designed exposures and the prevention of compulsive behaviors. As distress diminishes, obsessions and compulsions naturally lose their intensity and frequency.
Sherri Wandler, LCSW, BCN, has earned certification in ERP through the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA), one of the nation’s leading programs in OCD treatment.
Why does certification matter?
Certification reflects extensive, specialized training that goes beyond general clinical practice. It includes both group and individual consultation with experts in the field. Research suggests that therapists with formal ERP certification achieve better outcomes for their clients, making this credential an important marker of quality and expertise.INFERENCE BASED COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (I-CBT)
Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) is a newer approach to treating OCD. I-CBT addresses the role of doubt in fueling obsessions. It helps individuals with OCD recognize and set aside the faulty inferences that sustain their doubts and obsessional narratives, allowing them to relate to their experiences in a healthier, more balanced way.
